A majority of the music that is played by the band Swilly is blues based classic rock. Played by trio members hailing from Nanaimo, Kitimat, British Columbia, Canada, Colorado, USA; Swilly is a half Canadian American rock band.
The band members include front man Steven Williams, who is also a singer/songwriter. The man in the lead is Kevin Campbell and he plays the guitar, while Carl Hotz is behind the drums. All these are brought together by lyricist Tammy Throneberry.
The band has a swaggering appetite for good time as well as the attitude that is lacking in today’s modern music. This is evident in their songs. It would be good to take a close look into some of the popular songs that has been played by the end to understand the essence. Their tracks are highly known for their unusual track titles as well as their unapologetic style of music. Here is a look into some of their popular songs –
Play It Loud
This is a long album that features a total of 13 great tracks. Some of the common features that you would find in all of these tracks are the play of bass, rhythm guitar, drum tracks, keys, as well as vocals. Kevin Campbell played the lead guitarist in all the tracks except for the song “Breaking Some Glass”, which was actually led by lead guitarist Klaus Passeger.
Let the Fire In
The album kick starts with this song that features hard-driving beat and snarling riffs. The track also has a strong influence of the top vibe of ZZ Top. You would also identify a similar influence of ZZ Top in tracks namely “Start Talking” and “Play It Loud”.
Wasted
The track named “Wasted” features screaming guitars, heavy rock’n’roll, and some defiant proclamations as the line reads – “Who says we have to behave,..I ain’t living someone else’s life…” Listeners will also discover generous helpings of funky bass.
Friends
This lovely ballad is one of the greatest works of Swilly that departs the band’s original hard rock style. In addition, the vocals and the playing o f the guitar are absolutely sublime.
The lyrics talks about the strong bond of friendship and that no matter how old they grow and have children of their own. The lyrics affirm that the strong bond of friendship will endure the passing of time and the change of circumstances.
Other popular songs include “Canadian Beer”, “Breaking Some Glass”, “You’re a Dick”, “Kiss My Ass”, and “Damned” to name a few.
The band members continue to play, showing no signs of slowing down. With every new release, they have gained new devotees, thereby totaling to over 100 songs till date.
In 2019, they are ready to add a new track to their category called “Size Matters”. Packed the brim, this new track will be a new addition to their hard hitting catalog of rock n roll.
